Manhattan’s Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade returns this year to ring in the Year of the Dragon. In Chinese astrology, each year is associated with one of the twelve zodiac animals and one of the five elements. 2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon, which combines the zodiac sign of the Dragon with the element of Wood. Wood is associated with growth, flexibility, and generosity. When combined with the Dragon's traits, the Wood Dragon is thought to be a person with strong principles, creativity, and a compassionate nature.
While the actual Lunar New Year falls on February 10, 2024, the parade follows a few weeks later on February 25, 2024. The actual day of the Lunar New Year will be celebrated with the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival. Both events are FREE to attend.
The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade is a popular family-friendly event that features lion dances, cultural performances, floats, and much, much more.
