Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade 2025

  • New York, NY, 10013 United States (map)

Manhattan’s Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade returns this year to ring in the Year of the Snake. In Chinese astrology, each year is associated with one of the twelve zodiac animals and one of the five elements. 2025 is the Year of the Wood Snake, which combines the zodiac sign of the Snake with the element of Wood. Wood is associated with growth, flexibility, and generosity. When combined with the Snake’s traits, the Wood Snake is thought to be a person who is resourceful, calm and creative.

While the actual Lunar New Year falls on January 29, 2025, the parade follows a few weeks later on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The actual day of the Lunar New Year will be celebrated with the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival. Both events are FREE to attend.

The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade is a popular family-friendly event that features lion dances, cultural performances, floats, and much, much more. If you plan on attending, please note that there are often road closures, so adjust your travel plans accordingly. The Parade follows a particular route, so make sure to review these helpful tips for attending the Lunar New Year Parade to ensure a fun and successful experience.
