Holiday Nostalgia Rides 2023

The New York Transit Museum is back with its popular and beloved Nostalgia Train Rides on all Saturdays in December this year! This year’s Holiday Nostalgia Train will be the vintage 1930s R1/9 trains. These Independent Subway System (IND) cars were modern for their time, and complimented the IND’s Depression-Era Art Deco aesthetic. They feature rattan seats, paddle ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs, roll signs, and period advertisements.

The Holiday Nostalgia Train will return to the F line this year, departing from the 2nd Avenue station uptown platform then returning on the 145th St downtown D line platform from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on the following dates:

December 2

December 9

December 16

December 23

December 30

Please note: on December 2 only, the train will be utilizing the uptown D platform at 145th St.

Accessible stations along the route include Broadway-Lafayette (D/F/M), West 4th Street – Washington Square (A/C/E, D/F), 34th Street – Herald Square (D/F), 59th Street – Columbus Circle (A/C/D), and 125th Street (A/C/D). Please check the MTA’s Elevator and Escalator Status page before you travel for real-time elevator status information.

For the cost of a subway ride, don’t miss the chance to travel back in time on a vintage train and bask in the holiday magic that envelopes the city this time of year! It’s just one of the many amazing cheap or free things to do in New York City during the holidays.
