Manhattan’s Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade returns this year to ring in the Year of the Horse. In Chinese astrology, each year is associated with one of the twelve zodiac animals and one of the five elements. 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, which combines the zodiac sign of the Horse with the element of Fire. A Fire Horse year occurs every 60 years, and intensifies a Horse's natural traits: independence, enthusiasm, and speed.
While the actual Lunar New Year falls on February 17, 2026, the parade follows a few weeks later on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The actual day of the Lunar New Year will be celebrated with the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival. Both events are FREE to attend.
The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade is a popular family-friendly event that features lion dances, cultural performances, floats, and much, much more. If you plan on attending, please note that there are often road closures, so adjust your travel plans accordingly.
