NYC Summer Streets 2024

Summer Streets is a multi-day, annual car-free event. The Department of Transportation’s eagerly anticipated program has been expanded to five Saturdays in five boroughs, offering residents and visitors alike the opportunity to travel nearly 20 miles of Car-Free streets open in both directions. The event’s purpose is to provide space for healthy recreation and encourage New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.

Along the route, participants will find the usual unobstructed lanes for cycling, running and walking, as well as Rest Stops with booths and installations from innumerable city agencies, organizations, and companies offering free activities, performances, demonstrations and products. A major highlight this year includes:

  • Free Day Passes for all riders to enjoy unlimited 30-minute rides on a classic Citi Bike (sponsored by Citi Bike and Lyft). First come, first served!

A basic outline of the Manhattan route, running from the Brooklyn Bridge to West 125 Street, is provided in the map at the top of the page. For details, including rest stops and the routes for Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn and the Bronx, see the NYC DOT’s interactive map here.
